Google Shared Storage Pricing
Today Google announced a shared storage program that lets you buy extra storage space to be used across all of your combined Google services like Gmail, Picasa, etc. You can read the full announcement here.
What struck me as odd was the pricing. It's expensive! Take a look at how much Google is charging compared to Amazon's S3 service.
| Amazon S3 | Amazon Savings | ||
| 6 GB / Year | $20 | $11 | 46% |
| 25 GB / Year | $75 | $45 | 40% |
| 100 GB / Year | $250 | $180 | 28% |
| 250 GB / Year | $500 | $450 | 10% |
Now, I'm not saying Google's pricing is unreasonable. It's just that as a developer who does a lot of work with Amazon S3, I was taken aback at Google's pricing. (And, yes, I realize I'm not accounting for bandwidth transfer costs :-) )
Whoah, the pricing is high even compared to Google considering all the free stuff they offer as it is (except for extra space on PicasaWeb).

You are also not accounting for the fact that Google makes you buy in a pack, and S3 only makes you pay for what you are using... You may buy 6GB from google and over the course of the year use 1/2GB Average... more of a waste.
